Where Independent Music Finds Its Voice

Parle-nous de toi, qui es-tu et d'où viens-tu ?

I’m a singer/songwriter, originally from New York, and now in sunny California. I have a Bachelor of Science in Music Technology from Northeastern University, and founded Knothole Records in 2019.

Comment est née ta passion pour la musique ? Qui sont tes idoles ?

My dad was a musician and singer, so music was always played at the house. My first conscious memories are of singing along to the Annie The Musical soundtrack in the car. Once I was in school, I followed a somewhat typical progression; piano lessons, church choir, school band, chorus, musical theater. Every step along the way introduced something exciting, and kept me curious. I wanted to go deeper, and learn every facet of music. I love an array of music. My favorite artists include Gino Vannelli, the Tubes, the Beatles, Richard Marx, Rick Springfield, Go West, Toto, Backstreet Boys, the list goes on.

Quel genre de musique fais-tu ?

I love pop music across the decades. I feel there’s something interesting wherever you look. Even Classical music was the pop music of its day. My favorite type of pop has a strong melody. I love a song with surprises, so I try to incorporate those elements into my songs.

Quelle est la chanson la plus importante pour toi ? Quel message veux-tu transmettre à l'auditeur ?

If I had to describe myself in one song, it would « Go The Distance » from Disney’s Hercules. Michael Bolton sings his butt off, Alan Menken did his thing with another amazing melody, David Zippel’s lyrics hit home, and Jeremy Lubbock’s arrangement is out of this world. Not to mention the amazing musicians that play on it such as Michael Landau and Tim Pierce. To know me, is to understand that song, and I feel it applies to everyone. If you know what you want, go for it. Stop at nothing, and achieve greatness.

Pourquoi un auditeur qui ne te connaît pas devrait-il écouter ta musique ?

When I was asked in school what I wanted to do when I grow up, I said, « Make people happy. » I love love songs, so I tend to lean there, but my audience has consistently told me that I make them feel good, I bring a smile to their face. That’s all I could ask for. Music is a beautiful thing, and it should make you feel something. I want you to feel good.

Quels sont tes projets futurs ? Où te vois-tu dans 5 ans ?

I spent the summer in the studio with Ross Vannelli (Earth, Wind & Fire, Celine Dion, Richard Marx, Kanye West), writing new material. We’ve come up with some incredible stuff, and throughout 2022, I’ll be releasing those songs. The first is « Give A Little Lovin’, » a fun, upbeat track that mashes Purple Rain Prince and Bruno Mars in some respects. It rules! It comes out January 7th. Five years from now, I’ll be on top of the marquee and charts.

Raconte à nos lecteurs un épisode amusant qui s'est produit dans ta carrière d'artiste.

I was at the Troubadour in West Hollywood with a rather egotistical person. They were convinced everyone was looking at them as we made our way about the room. Eventually someone approached us, and they thought for sure it was for a picture or even autograph. Turns out, they wanted a picture with me. That felt good.
