Where Independent Music Finds Its Voice

Parle-nous de toi, qui es-tu et d'où viens-tu ?

Tebogo Vincent Makhubela born and raised in Johannesburg south Africa , based in Naturena Johannesburg I went to school at supreme primary school(2004-2005) moved to asteri primary school(2007) then transferred to Johannesburg politech institute in 2008 – 2015 primary school and high school Later went to Destiny charter schools 2016-2017 Inspiration to do music At a very young age I was very intrigued by music and loved singing. I was exposed to various types of genres but mostly reggae and pop music to be specific especially Micheal Jackson. I grew up imitating Micheal Jackson trying so hard to sing and dance like him, In grade 7 (2011) my school hosted a career day function where every kid would decide on what career path they preferred.  There were numerous career choices but I did not fancy any of those professions so i went there and i sang a song by sterling knight called hero from the Disney channel movie starstruck I was obsessed with that movie and obsessed with Disney channel cartoons and movies. I performed and I had a great time I I recieved a wondered reception from my classmates and teachers it felt amazing i knew that’s what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. And at the time justin bieber was very famous and the single baby was a smash hit I was obsessed with him and the Ed Sheeran’s hit single The A team  So as I grew older I started getting deeply involved with music cause I’d write lines and sing songs by ed sheeran fascinated by the way he writes and performed my passion to become a musician grew stronger but the only issue was that my parents did not want me to pursue my dreams because I was at school. In 2016 I took the decision to follow my dreams and I purchased an Acoustic guitar with my lunch money . Through the years I taught myself how to write songs and sing properly learnt how to play the guitar thru YouTube videos , I dreamed to be like Ed sheeran and the magical Michael Jackson. So Ed sheeran is my biggest inspiration and Micheal Jackson.

Comment est née ta passion pour la musique ? Qui sont tes idoles ?

My passion for music was born in 2011 I was just 10 years old and I was really into singing I used to sing all the time. In June 2011 I discovered Ed sheeran through a song called The A team and from that day my life changed i was enchanted and so captivated by him. I studied him and started following him because he inspired me so much made me believe I could definitely become a musician one day. My idols include the likes of Ed sheeran, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Steve wonder , Sam Smith and Adele.

Quel genre de musique fais-tu ?

I am mainly a Pop singer and songwriter however I have educated myself on how to be a very versatile artist because the industry very complex but so intriguing as well so you have to be very adjustable and able to venture into other genres. Right now I am able to do Hip hop, Folk pop , Contemporary RnB and Afrobeats including the famous South African genre Amapiano.

Quelle est la chanson la plus importante pour toi ? Quel message veux-tu transmettre à l'auditeur ?

The most important song to me is Michael Jackson’s Heal the world it is a very powerful song which has a very clear and precise message « heal the world » let’s try to make the world a better place for all the generations to come. I think that song is very timeless because right now with Corona virus being so present we need songs like that to give us hope and comfort not to forget that we can overcome anything as long as we work together and not exclude anyone. The message I strongly want to convey to the listener is the importance of love and honesty. I write songs to tell stories and bring to life events that resonate with people such as stories that can give someone the chills , I want my words to touch the listeners heart and lift the listeners soul through my voice and melodies.

Pourquoi un auditeur qui ne te connaît pas devrait-il écouter ta musique ?

I’d say they should give me a chance and welcome me into their lives because my songs hit home. I write really honest and vulnerable songs which people can relate to its something I often look to achieve. My interest and intentions are to bring joy to the listener or viewers life every single time ,try to change the world in some sort of way through my music. My music ambitions are so massive and I know listeners are the vital part in the process of making my dreams come true.

Quels sont tes projets futurs ? Où te vois-tu dans 5 ans ?

Currently I am working on a long project (LP) songs I have written over the years well since I was 17 and never got the opportunity to release them. And I I working on a number of singles as well where I am experimenting with different sounds and genres. In 5 years I a have a firm and positive belief I will be living my dream because I believe in speaking things into existence it has been extremely difficult but I know in the next 5 years I will be navigating through my career and trying to build and staying productive ans creative to keep up with my ambitions and the environment or industry.

Raconte à nos lecteurs un épisode amusant qui s'est produit dans ta carrière d'artiste.

In June I was booked to play a gig in Soweto the south of Johannesburg and organizers failed to provide the 2 mic stands I had requested prior to the gig but they failed to provide them so during the gig my manager had to hold both mics while I was singing I could tell he was struggling but he was so committed to holding the two mics throughout my set it was very funny.
