Where Independent Music Finds Its Voice

Asgard Raven: Indie Rock Sensation from Hampshire Blending Punk, Blues, and Britpop Influences

Asgard Raven, fronted by singer-songwriter Joe from Hampshire, UK, is an indie-rock project inspired by personal experiences during his Army deployments. Joe’s passion for music began early, drawing from influences like The Doors, Oasis, and the Sex Pistols. His unique sound blends elements of punk, blues, and Britpop, producing a nostalgic yet fresh auditory experience reminiscent of early 90s rock records. His music is recorded at Sunrise Sound Studio and produced by Marc Burford of Echotape, with guidance from legendary Oasis manager Alan McGee.

Notable releases include the singles “Until Another Day” (2021) and “Rollercoaster” (2022). Asgard Raven’s music often explores themes of love, support, and the human experience, with upcoming tracks “Light of My Life” and “For Us All” set for release in 2024. Looking ahead, Joe aims to continue writing, performing live, and building a dedicated fanbase. His journey is marked by a commitment to authenticity and the power of music to connect with others.

Tell us about yourself, who are you and where do you come from?

Iā€™m Joe, lead singer, songwriter and guitarist. Iā€™m from Hampshire in the UK.

How was your passion for music born? Who are your idols?

My passion for music started at an early age, listening to the Doors, Chuck Berry, Faith no more, sex pistols, old blues, and my bloody valentine. I loved the energy and emotion that music can give you. My real idols are the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Oasis and Puddle of Mudd, Iā€™m a real rock n roller at heart!

What kind of music do you do?

I make indie rock songs, influenced with a bit of punk, blues, Britpop and shoe gazing, which produces a unique and distinctive sound. I have written a mixture of acoustic songs, anthemic epics and some out and out bangers!

What is the most important song for you? What message do you want to convey to the listener?

I have two at the moment. Light of My Life is a love song, written about a special lady who is always there supporting me, and saying what I find hard to say in real life. The other is For Us All, which talks about how we canā€™t always tell when people are struggling, but we can lean on each other and support each other.

Why should a listener who doesnā€™t know you listen to your music?

I make the music I love, I put my heart and soul into every track, and I love to feel the foot stomping vibe, the love and hope, and the power of music. If you too love rock and roll youā€™ll love these songs Iā€™m sure, you have nothing to lose by giving it a listen!! Except a few minutes of your day!

What are your future projects? Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

Iā€™m releasing the last of 5 songs currently scheduled for this year, so will take a break for a couple of months and write some new tunes. Iā€™m practicing my live performance so will be concentrating on that aspect for a while too, and Iā€™m hoping to release more songs next year. In 5 years I hope to be playing lots of gigs, and to have a decent record deal, maybe even have a few fans!!

Tell our readers a funny episode that happened in your career as an artist.

On my next record which comes out in October, I wanted a whistle blast on it. I went and bought one and we tried it, then bought a load more – of course ended up recording the first one! It took us about 2 hours to record a one and a half second blast, couldnā€™t stop laughing it was so ridiculous – sounded awesome in the end though thankfully.
