share: Sav Deneiro is working with Def Jam!

If you haven’t heard the name “Sav Deneiro” as of yet, you most certainly will hear his name within the music industry this year. With an increasing catalog discography created within the last year & half, Sav Deneiro has released 5 self- produced projects (THIS WEEK, Freestyle Thursdays, Vol. II, Today= Tomorrow & J.R). This was a clear sign that Deneiro has no plans on taking a hiatus from his musical journey. Deneiro’s previous project “J.R” is an instrumental album, containing 7 songs of various sounds with orchestration of melody, smooth jazz, infused with traditional boom bap signatures.

Sav Deneiro has now returned with his final installment to his “Freestyle Thursdays” series titled “Vol.III.” While working on his 3rd edition to his series, there was a huge opportunity presented to Sav Deneiro, while communicating with an A&R represented by Def Jam Recordings. While we have not heard any major announcements from Def Jam, we were able to catch up with Sav Deneiro, to discuss the specifics of his potential signing to the label.

Team: Sav! It’s nice to finally work again. How are you feeling my brother?

Deneirio: Blessed brother, beyond blessed. It’s nice to have this conversation. Hope all is well with you and your family.

Team: Everything is good over here brother. I see you have been very persistent in this last year. I reviewed your catalog, and I see You’ve dropped 6 albums. Man, You have been working. I mean really working!

Deneiro: It’s about to be 7 albums now (laughs) After this final trilogy edition, it’ll be 7 albums. I feel like I have to be consistent as far as a lyricist to grab new ideas, and sharpen my penmanship. As a producer, I don’t really worry on consistency in that department. The more sounds I hear, the more I can create. I hear sounds everyday, so I always be fresh.

Team: That is a cool way to look at your work like that. I can definitely tell you took your time on your new release. I was listening to “Rap From Pain” and I noticed that you have a way of starting your albums with a strong opening track. Something that grabs listeners before you can get to the 3rd song. I was thoroughly impressed! With your rhythm pattern over that 808 drop. I had to listen to the song 2xs before going to the next track. What impressed me the most, was the content. The message that was in there man…I heard the trump line as well (lol). I just wanted to say, great job on that song. Awesome work!

Deneiro: Oh man…I appreciate it bro! Thank you so much! I had that beat for about 5 months. I remembered when I made it, I was in transition from one house to the next, and I was experiencing some anxiety attacks and a lot of traumatic thoughts. I started off with the free man with unclenched fists line, and I kept going. I wanted the 808 to be the main part of the beat, and I started adding the drums and other elements in the song later. I had to rap the whole song first before finishing the beat. that was new way to create for me. That was the new way to create this album.

Team: Yessir! You did a great job on blending both concepts into one. How log did it take you to complete the song?

Deneiro: 48 hours!  It took me 48 hours to finish my verses, produce the rest of the beat, mix and master the original stems… it’s album time man. Supreme focus!

Team: I hear it, Sav. I hear it in the music. I do want to ask you, What is your involvement in the music industry? Seems like an artist of your caliber should have a spotlight shined on you at this moment. I think there was a podcast you were on speaking to an A&R for Capitol Records last year?

Deneiro: 100% independent! I own everything I create. I was skeptical of working with record labels after hearing about certain practices they have in their system. Capitol Records did not present me anything that they offered in contractual form. It was more of a you know this person, and that person knows another person, who may vouch for a budget for an album. With no real paperwork or lawyers involved…I smell a scam. So I just kept going. I was discouraged by this bogus missed opportunity, but I kept making music and releasing it. I just learned how become a businessman through that situation.

Team: Wow, so there was no one at Capitol that wanted to have a meeting with you? At least they could flown you out to a meeting in Los Angeles?

Deneiro: No one! The A&R I talked to, lets just say he wasn’t  who he said he was. I love everyone through God, so I wish him and his family the best. But yeah bro, its all about 27KlubRecords. It’s the Sav Deneiro show over here. I always open to working with a label, if they give me the right terms, I’ll have a listening ear.

Team: It seems like there is another label that has their eyes on you at this time.

Deneiro: Right! Right! (laughs)

Team: Speaking to you before, we heard that you may have a new deal With Def Jam Recordings? Can you Elaborate on this big news, if possible?

Deneiro: So, I’ve been working on this “Vol.III” album ever since I dropped my debut album (Today=Tomorrow). I had about 7 beats left from “J.R” so I started collaborating with other artists on SoundCloud and Bandlab, to give them production for some new music. I don’t know how this happened, so I will say this is all God’s timing, right. So yeah, a producer had found me on SoundCloud, and did his research on me. He reached out to me and sent me a pack of beats, and said I can record on anything I want. So instead of just doing the vocals, I tuned the drums and 808s, progressions, chords, basically I redid most of the song, and then I recorded my vocals. I gave 2 songs a Rockstar vibe to them. 2 days later, I get an email from…an A&R from Def Jam, saying they loved what I did did for one of their UK artists song, and they wan to work with me on making beats for bigger and upcoming artist. This time, someone had some paperwork. Legal contracts with multiple paragraphs. Felt surreal, like this move is legit.

Team: That is amazing! You have a story to your big break, but it is not a cliché. How did you feel when you were offered a production deal?

Deneiro: I was shocked! Skeptical at first, but shocked. I never thought I would be in this position to offered a production deal from a major label. I thought You would have to be signed as an artist, and I definitely did not want to do that. I had worked with Def jam before. I co-produced some sounds for a G.O.O.D. Music artist, but I was slighted early on because I did not know the business. I never received a royalty check, just some upfront money, and I think it was like $5,ooo, so I got screwed at that time.  Being independent taught me to watch over your contracts, have lawyers, and balance your financial bookings for shows, equipment, a place to live…all of that. So with a production deal…I’m still independent, just with a bigger recognition to my name. I talked to an exec at Def Jam over zoom, and I was pleased when they agreed to allow me to have creative control over my future workings.

Team: Can you tell us how much the deal was worth?

Deneiro: No comment!

Team: That is fair enough! We appreciate you allowing us to the access to your time for a conversation with your team. And I really do love this “Vol.III” album. You said there is a final trilogy album on the way?

Deneiro: Yessir, I am adding 9 new songs o the album. Every song is made to flow to the next. this makes you want to listen to the whole album in full context. I made this album into a play. I broke the acts down into 4 acts. That’s why you get the interludes in the album. It all transitions from a range of emotions. Act 1 is getting love from God, Act 2 is heartbreak and emotions, Act 3 is showing growth through those emotions, and Act 4 is Celebrating the breakthrough with God through all of these things. Never got a chance to explain my albums.

Team: I Love it man I love it! Thank you for sitting down with us aging Sav Deneiro! It is always a pleasure!

Deneiro: You already Know it! Vol.III is out now on all DSPs and I still Got “J.R II” on the way . (Yea, Yuh)
