Tell us about yourself, who are you and where do you come from?

My name is Robert Schulz, I come from Leipzig, a city that has shaped me with its vibrant culture and passion for music. I studied industrial engineering for chemistry and environmental technology and have since worked on a wide range of projects, both in the technical and creative fields. Above all, I am passionate about music and creative work. Under my stage name ARTEKK, I produce music that is a unique blend of pop, hardtekk, drum & bass and IDM. I draw inspiration from numerous genres, ranging from rave and punk to jazz and hip hop. This versatility is reflected not only in my music, but also in my general approach to solving challenges creatively and continuously developing myself. My empathetic, optimistic and open personality helps me to form strong connections with others and work effectively in teams. I find it particularly appealing to combine music projects and creative ideas with a strategic, project-oriented approach, which has also set me apart in my previous roles. In my free time, I work on building my music blog WhatsMusic.de and I am working on setting up an online store to share my love of music with an even wider audience. I also enjoy spending time thinking about topics such as life, love and social issues ā€“ I love having deep conversations and discovering new perspectives.

How was your passion for music born? Who are your idols?

My passion for music began in my childhood. I grew up in an environment where music played an important role, and I still remember the first records I listened to. The energy, the emotions and the freedom that I felt immediately captivated me. I started trying out different instruments at an early age ā€“ first drums, then guitar, and later I began writing my own lyrics. The time I spent playing in two bands was particularly formative for me. I was able to experience the shared energy on stage and the feeling of how music can bring people together. Although I stopped playing in bands when I was 18, I never stopped loving music. Today, technology has enabled me to revive my dream and produce music without a band ā€“ a journey that is incredibly fulfilling for me. In terms of my idols, I have always been fascinated by artists who break genre boundaries and blaze their own trail. Musicians like Thom Yorke of Radiohead, who manages to combine emotional depth with experimental sounds, and Prodigy, who embodies the rave and punk spirit, have inspired me. I also admire artists like David Bowie, who were able to constantly reinvent themselves, and bands like Massive Attack, who manage to combine different styles in a unique way. The versatility of artists like Kendrick Lamar, who address social issues through their lyrics and put emotion into their music, also inspires me a lot. For me, music is not just entertainment ā€“ it is a way to convey feelings, tell stories and connect people. I love to motivate, inspire and encourage reflection through my music.

What kind of music do you do?

My music is a mix of genres ā€“ I experiment with pop, hardtekk, drum & bass and IDM. I love combining the energy of hardtekk with the catchiness of pop, while drum & bass and IDM often give my tracks an extra depth and dynamics. This combination allows me to express a wide range of emotions ā€“ from powerful, rousing beats to atmospheric, reflective soundscapes. What makes my music particularly special is the way it defies stylistic categorization. I draw inspiration from a wide range of influences ā€“ rave, punk, hip hop, jazz ā€“ and aim to create soundscapes that inspire both dancing and reflection. My music is often energetic, with strong rhythms, but it also always carries a message. It often deals with topics such as self-confidence, emotional resilience and personal challenges. I want to inspire and motivate people, and my music is meant to accompany them on a journey ā€“ whether it’s an ecstatic party or a moment of reflection.

What is the most important song for you? What message do you want to convey to the listener?

The song that means the most to me personally is ‘Come Closer’ ā€“ the title track of my album of the same name. I think that ‘Come Closer’ is actually the best thing I’ve produced so far. It embodies the essence of what I want to achieve with my music: to create a connection, to bring people closer together and to create a space for authentic emotions. The song is powerful and honest, and I think you can feel that when you listen to it. The central message of ‘Come Closer’ is to let down the walls that we often build around ourselves and to really open up to the people around us. It’s about engaging with others, allowing real closeness, even when it sometimes seems scary or difficult. We live in a world that can sometimes be isolating, whether it’s through technology, our fears or the fast pace of everyday life. With this song, I want to remind people of the importance of seeking and maintaining real connections. Musically, ‘Come Closer’ combines driving rhythms with deep, emotional melodies, which reflects the ambivalence and tension between closeness and the fear of it well. It is a song that invites you to dance as well as to reflect ā€“ it is meant to sweep the listener away, but also to create an emotional connection. Ultimately, I want listeners to be inspired to come closer to each other and to show themselves in all their facets, without fear of vulnerability.

Why should a listener who doesnā€™t know you listen to your music?

I think that anyone who is unfamiliar with my music should give it a chance because it offers a special blend of energy, depth and emotion. My music combines different genres such as pop, hardtekk, drum & bass and IDM, which means that it is both catchy and melodic as well as powerful and rhythmic. This combination ensures that my songs can be played at a party to really release energy, but can also be listened to in quiet moments to reflect or escape into another world. My music is for people who love diversity and want to experience emotions that cannot be confined to one mood. If you are in the mood for a journey ā€“ be it through driving beats, atmospheric melodies or honest, touching lyrics ā€“ then my music is perfect for you. I also want to convey a message in my songs that motivates and inspires listeners. It’s about self-confidence, overcoming challenges and getting closer to yourself and others. I think we all know those moments when we need a little inspiration and motivation ā€“ and that’s exactly what I want to give with my music. Each song tells a story that people can relate to, and maybe you’ll discover a facet in it that fits you perfectly.

What are your future projects? Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

In the years to come, I want to develop my music further and take on new challenges, both artistically and entrepreneurially. One project that is particularly close to my heart is creating a bespoke music service for special occasions, where I would create custom songs for people for weddings, birthdays or other significant moments in life. The idea is to make music truly personal and to offer a unique experience by combining my creativity with modern technologies. I am determined to make this service a successful, scalable business that brings joy to people at different stages in their lives. In five years, I see myself as an established artist who both releases his own music and actively supports projects that combine music and technology. Another wish of mine is to become more involved in the community ā€“ whether it’s supporting young talent or working on projects that make the world a better place. I want to use my platform to effect positive change, whether it’s through the topics I address in my music or through concrete actions that support and inspire people. I see myself on stage, but not only as a musician, but also as someone who inspires others to follow their dreams ā€“ whether that’s in music or in other creative fields. I also hope that by then I will have built my music blog project WhatsMusic.de into a relevant platform that inspires music lovers and supports artists who want to make their voice heard in the world of music. Ultimately, I want my music and my work to leave a lasting impression ā€“ both in the music scene and in the lives of the people I touch with it.

Tell our readers a funny episode that happened in your career as an artist.

One of my funniest experiences as an artist happened during a performance when I was still playing in a band. We were on a small stage in a club in Leipzig, and the show was going great ā€“ people were dancing, the atmosphere was great, and we were really into it. In the middle of a song, I wanted to make a particularly powerful movement and jumped onto the bass drum of my drum set with full energy. What I hadn’t considered was that the stage was a bit unstable and the drum suddenly slipped forward, almost off the stage. That was when I realized that I hadn’t thought the whole thing through. While I was still trying to catch myself, I suddenly heard a metallic sound ā€“ the cymbal stand that I had accidentally pulled along had fallen over and rolled to the side. I had trouble concentrating, but of course I wanted to continue playing. Fortunately, our bassist stepped in, held the bass drum with his foot, and I was able to continue somehow. However, the whole incident made the audience laugh so much that it was almost difficult to stay serious for the rest of the song. In the end, I guess it was one of those moments that I love so much as a musician ā€“ despite all the preparation and seriousness, there is always room for spontaneous, chaotic and human moments that make everyone involved laugh. Sometimes it’s exactly these unexpected moments that make a show unforgettable.
