The Sino-Spanish industrial duo celebrate a chart-topping debut with a provocative collection of industrial rock, electronic pop and alternative sounds, featuring an international line-up of collaborators.
Sino-Spanish industrial duo Sonic Panda have reached No. 1 on the iTunes Spain album chart on the first day of release with their debut full-length album Neomelodrama, a deliberately excessive collection that brings together industrial rock, electronic pop and alternative music in a world of sonic chaos, dark humour and emotional intensity.
Produced by Barcelona-based musician and producer Carlsed, the album explores the tension between aggression and vulnerability, romance and anger, absurdity and sincerity. Drawing on industrial, electronic and alternative influences, Sonic Panda create a distinctive sound driven by powerful guitars, hard-edged electronics, infectious melodies and provocative storytelling. Each track opens a different window into the band’s twisted universe, where horror, satire and emotional excess coexist.
Neomelodrama features an impressive international line-up of collaborators. Among them are electronic music pioneers Mesh, who contribute a remix of ‘Art Is Dead’, one of the album’s standout tracks; Zeuss, renowned for his production work with Rob Zombie; German electronic acts Rotersand and Seelenpein; Matt Pop, known for his work with Fangoria; and Spanish artists Carlos Bayona, Oblique and Frank Hurman. These collaborations bring different perspectives to the record while reinforcing its eclectic and uncompromising identity.
One of the album’s central themes emerges in ‘Art Is Dead’, a provocative reflection on the changing role of artists in an era increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence. The accompanying music video revisits the photographic career of Sonic Panda vocalist and songwriter Pere Ibañez, bringing together artworks from different stages of his career in a visual retrospective that questions the future of creativity and the value of human artistic skills in a world where machines are increasingly capable of replacing them.
Led by Pere Ibañez and Seni Ren, Sonic Panda have developed a musical identity that refuses to settle into a single genre or aesthetic. With Neomelodrama, the duo bring together their different influences and creative worlds in a debut that is as confrontational as it is melodic, and as theatrical as it is personal.
NEOMELODRAMA is out now on Spanish independent label No Where Records, available on all major digital platforms, CD and vinyl.
