electronic experimental but with an indie pop and housy touch

Interview with Forwood

Tell us about yourself, who are you and where do you come from?

Hi my name is Forwood, my real name is Hugo but we don’t care. I just started this musical project recently. Forwood started with a pulsion. I had a lot of sound in the computer since 3 months that I had never put on the internet. And as I’m the king to crash my laptop I decided to release the songs without asking myself any questions. Without necessarily looking for a label, without money, no graphic designer, no mix/mastering pro. Just me and my soundcloud. I first want to share my creations without having someone to give me advice. Of course I listen to people’s advice. But I need to be free to start. To be able to produce different music and plumb the depths of electronics

How was your passion for music born? Who are your idols?

I am French and I grew up in a family of DJs. House and tech. I have loved the French touch since childhood. And I had a mainstream career in an alternative rap French group. But I had never composed music until then. Having had the experience of the mainstream I had an identity problem because i listen to a lot of experimental music, indie projects. When I was little i listened a lot daft punk, chemical brothers, The prodigy and later i discovered artists like Flume. Where i found this musical research, this way of doing different from the norm. And that’s what I’m trying to do. Just be creative. Different. And take pleasure to produce.

What kind of music do you do?

I make electronic experimental but with an indie pop and housy touch. No matter the style. With a large spectrum. I search new sonority and texture. And try to fit them in the perfect composition.

What is the most important song for you? What message do you want to convey to the listener?

I think for the moment it’s my music “Dipteria” because i like the break, i like to do emotional things. I try to share a sensation, a feeling in the deep of the song. But my favorite track from a another artiste is Chemical brothers – asleep from day and Flume – Hyperreal. I think it’s not the same style but i can listen this musics again and again

Why should a listener who doesnโ€™t know you listen to your music?

I just want a person to find my music and feel a real feeling, to find some different things in it. Who can why not retain him over time. When I posted my first piece “Puzzle”. I didn’t care about the plays. It was just to find my piece somewhere in a few years. But now that people leave comments and encourage me. I think I have to continue because it can appeal to people and bring a good spirit into their lives. Like some music does for me. Try to give shivers at the first listening ahah

What are your future projects? Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

Don’t really know for now i’m super productive so i live day to day between music and my work. Maybe to grow a community. But I have no vocation to become famous with my music. I’m making a mixtape. I will see if eventually I propose to a label. But I’m impatient, in general I want to directly share the sound and switch to another if I think it sounds good. I’m not for waiting months before a release. Promotion etc. People consume music too quickly to wait. I want to be as quick to release a sound as when I listen to another artist’s release. And i don’t really like to play the networking game with photos, music industry bullshit. Become an Instagrammer…etc. It bored me a lot. I just like doing music.

Tell our readers a funny episode that happened in your career as an artist.

Strangely, I produce much better when I’m in my living room with my 1-year-old daughter crying and my girlfriend constantly asking me questions. I like to produce in noise.
