Parle-nous de toi, qui es-tu et d'où viens-tu ?

Electric Duvet is a three-piece band, based in Berlin. It all started back in 2020 when Mike and Tiho met randomly at an abandoned airport in Berlin (Tempelhofer Feld) where Mike was playing guitar in the wild. Since they shared many common interests and loved similar kinds of music, they started jamming ambient/newAge music. It was mostly experimenting with all kinds of gear because both of them are gearheads. You know, let’s just patch our synths, pull out that dusty Dynacord tape echo, grab that old Tascam 4 track, and let’s have some fun! After a few published albums and gigs, Veit joined on the drums. And that’s the current setup, Veit on drums, Mike on guitar and electronics, and Tiho on bass and modular synth. We come from widely different places (USA, Germany, Croatia), and don’t match musically 100% with one another, but we found common ground in ambient, psych-rock, and jammy type of music. You can also hear it on the album which starts as a typical experimental album going into something like stoner rock. Later on, you can hear songs that are kinda jazzy, kinda shoegaze, krautrock, or just plain ambient. That’s because it is very important for us to have all of our tastes represented in the music. With time it will probably become more unified, but for our first album, we wanted to show the full palette of sounds that made us. The process of song creation was very old school. From the first time we met, we started with multitrack recording all of our jams. After almost 18 months of that, we had enough material to start gigging and polishing the tracks that were cherry-picked for the album recording. The whole album was made DIY by Electric Duvet. We recorded ourselves, as well as did the mixing and mastering. For now, the album is only available in a digital format, but the band is planning to do a physical release, starting with a cassette remaster in 2024.

Comment est née ta passion pour la musique ? Qui sont tes idoles ?

All of us started playing at an early age, and with all of us, it just stuck. It’s one of those things that becomes more than a hobby, it consumes all of your life, budget, focus, and energy. And you still want more of it. Idols are countless, but let’s name a few like Can, Brian Eno, King Crimson, King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard, Pink Floyd, Boards of Canada, Miles Davis, Mort Garson, L’Eclair, Babe Rainbow.. Good music is everywhere and knows no genre.

Quel genre de musique fais-tu ?

It’s easiest to explain it as Psychedelic Rock, but it’s so much more than just that. Let’s say it’s self-exploratory music with influences from ambient music, krautrock, 70s rock, jazz and shoegaze.

Quelle est la chanson la plus importante pour toi ? Quel message veux-tu transmettre à l'auditeur ?

Well, it’s an instrumental album, the message we want to share is to take some time to sit down, and let your mind take you places while you listen, you will find the message there. The most important song might be Drip Tide. It was our first published single, and it’s a groovy song with many of the elements that made us. There’s that 70s groovy vibe, there’s trippy background atmospheres made by running a shortwave radio through tape echoes, and glitch pedals, a rhythm change to groove it in 7/8, and that shoegazey ending.

Pourquoi un auditeur qui ne te connaît pas devrait-il écouter ta musique ?

Well, if you like to take some time for yourself, are into groovy stuff, but also into self exploratory music that sometimes turns into a heavy riff, this might be your jam.

Quels sont tes projets futurs ? Où te vois-tu dans 5 ans ?

Future projects are many, we are already working on the second album which should be slightly more electronic, and slightly less rock. All of us actively work on improving ourselves, investing into new gear, and just experimenting. Mike plays trumpet and keys as well, so we will explore that direction a bit. 5 years from now, we will probably still do this thing, create, record, play shows, and work on new material.
