Interview with NAVI

Tell us about yourself, who are you and where do you come from?

My name is NAVI and I am singer-songwriter based in Bucharest, Romania. I’ve been making music since I was 12, released my first album “Songbird” in 2017 and now I have my latest single “Lista de dorinČ›e” (Wishlist) out.

How was your passion for music born? Who are your idols?

I just started composing, like a game of sorts, at 12. I had written poems up to that point but I always felt something was missing. Some of my childhood friends suggested starting a girl band and that was the catalyst for me to explore my musically creative side more. My absolute idol is Celine Dion :)

What kind of music do you do?

I am somewhere between indie-pop and pop-rock – with sprinkles!

What is the most important song for you? What message do you want to convey to the listener?

The most important song for me is always next one. The next chapter, the next set of butterflies, the emotion that comes with unveiling a new part of my soul. I am utterly in love with the process of songwriting. And the message I would always love for people to get while listening to any of my songs is YOU ARE FREE. Free to live, love, explore, be creative, unchained.

Why should a listener who doesn’t know you listen to your music?

… for a moment of freedom and magic.

What are your future projects? Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

I am gearing up for the release of my new EP (it’s in Romanian), there is also a duet in English in the works with a very special vocalist, plus a project with an international producer. Sooo… a lot going on right now :D Five years from now I hope I will be further in my profession, better, wiser, taking my music to new countries and places, having it reach more and more souls.

Tell our readers a funny episode that happened in your career as an artist.

I was once introduced at a music festival as NATALIA :)) people sometimes understand NATTY instead of NAVI and that one presenter just went one step ahead and invented a whole new name for me. As I often say when ordering from Starbucks in a busy line, “just call me Baby” :)))
