A 36 years old producer from the southwest of Germany

Interview with Kanta Loop

Tell us about yourself, who are you and where do you come from?

My name is Kanta, I am a 36 years old producer from the southwest of Germany. From 9 to 5 I work for the local administration, in my freetime I make electronic music, play with my 6 year old daugther or go to the gym.

How was your passion for music born? Who are your idols?

Back in the year 2002, I was a teenager and addicted to HipHop. Me and my friends tried to write some rap songs, but no one knew where the music came from, so we had to use instrumentalversions from songs of other artists. I got interested in how hey make their beats. The Internet was a small place back then, and I soaked every information I could get. This is where it all started.

What kind of music do you do?

With my main project called “Charlie Boulala”, I make tropical / beach / chillout house for relaxed summerdays. With my new project “Kanta Loop”, which I started in mid 2022, I produce heavy and bass focused Drum & Bass.

What is the most important song for you? What message do you want to convey to the listener?

There is no particular most important song for me. There are so many great songs out there that I cannot rank. My message is to enjoy life and have a good time basically :) Just enjoy the music and feel good. Life is full of stress and hectic, so I want to create music that people can simply enjoy. Second thing I am looking for when producing is the live aspect. My songs need to be enjoyable in headphones on the balcony with a coffee in front of you and in the club on heavy speakers and sweaty dancefloors. Wether it is Tropical House or Drum and Bass.

Why should a listener who doesnโ€™t know you listen to your music?

I make music for more than 20 years in different genres. I know how to produce and have an experience that I can transfer into my songs. I do not make complicated or technical music, my songs can be enjoyed in many different situations.

What are your future projects? Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

The Kanta Loop project has just started now. In 5 years from now, I see myself in my studio like today, but with a bigger fanbase behind me :) Drum and Bass fans will hopefully have recognized me and enjoy my sound.

Tell our readers a funny episode that happened in your career as an artist.

In 2012, I had a nice conversation with Kygo on soundcloud. It was the time shortly before he got signed by a major and his career went skyrocketing. He listened to some of my Tropical House tunes and liked them, so I asked if he wanted to remix one (as I really liked his music) and he said “yeah sure why not.” He just had to finish learning for his exams and then will start to produce the remix. 2 weeks later, he got signed, and from there on I did not hear anything from him again. Which is fine for me, since this guy did everything right. But image there would be a Kygo remix out there for one of my songs… this would have increased my popularity by a huge amount. Sadly, I was a bit too slow. I still have the screenshots from this conversation hanging in my studio :)
